Cookie Policy
Last updated: March 2025
We're upfront about how we track your activity on carionvelth.org. This document explains what tracking methods we use and why they matter for your experience.
No jargon. No hidden surprises. Just honest information about how we collect and use data when you visit our site.
What Are Tracking Technologies?
When you visit our website, small pieces of data get stored on your device. These are commonly called cookies, but that's just one type. We also use web beacons, pixel tags, and local storage.
Think of them as digital breadcrumbs. They help us remember who you are between visits and understand how you interact with our content. Some stick around for years. Others disappear the moment you close your browser.
Most websites use these tools. We're no different. But we want you to know exactly what we're doing and why.
Types of Tracking We Use
Not all tracking serves the same purpose. Here's how we categorize what we collect:
Essential
These keep the site functioning. Without them, you can't log in, fill out forms, or access secure areas. They're non-negotiable if you want to use our platform properly.
Functional
These remember your preferences. Things like your location settings, language choices, or interface customizations. They make repeat visits smoother.
Analytical
We track how people move through our site. Which pages get the most attention? Where do visitors drop off? This data helps us improve what we offer.
Marketing
These track your activity across different sites. They help us show you relevant content and measure whether our campaigns actually work.
How We Actually Use This Information
Data collection sounds invasive. But here's what we're really doing with it:
Improving Your Experience
When we see patterns in how people use our educational resources, we adjust. Maybe a particular lesson format works better. Or certain topics need more explanation.
We can't read minds, but analytics give us clues about what's working and what's frustrating.
Security and Prevention
Tracking helps us spot suspicious activity. If someone's trying to break into accounts or scrape our content, we'll notice.
It's also how we prevent the same person from submitting forms multiple times or gaming our systems.
- Remembering your progress through our learning materials
- Customizing content recommendations based on your interests
- Understanding which webinar topics generate the most engagement
- Testing different page layouts to see what resonates
- Measuring how long people spend reading specific articles
How Long We Keep This Data
Session data vanishes when you close your browser. That's usually login information and temporary preferences.
Persistent tracking can stick around for up to two years. This includes things like your interface preferences and anonymized usage patterns. After that period, we either refresh the data or delete it entirely.
Marketing-related tracking typically expires within 12 months. We're not interested in storing ancient browsing history.
Third-Party Services
We don't do everything in-house. Some tracking comes from external tools we've integrated:
Analytics platforms help us understand traffic patterns. Video hosting services track playback data. Email campaign tools monitor open rates and click-throughs.
These third parties have their own privacy policies. When you use carionvelth.org, you're also interacting with their systems. We've chosen providers we trust, but they operate independently.
If that bothers you, blocking third-party tracking through your browser settings will prevent most of these connections.
Taking Control of Your Tracking
You're not stuck with our defaults. Every modern browser lets you manage how sites track you.
Chrome
Settings → Privacy and security → Cookies and other site data. You can block everything, allow everything, or set custom rules per site.
Firefox
Options → Privacy & Security → Enhanced Tracking Protection. Firefox offers strict, standard, or custom blocking modes.
Safari
Preferences → Privacy → Website tracking. Safari blocks most third-party tracking by default.
Edge
Settings → Privacy, search, and services → Tracking prevention. Choose from basic, balanced, or strict protection.
Blocking tracking might break some site features. If something stops working after you change your settings, that's probably why.
Your Rights Regarding Collected Data
Australian privacy laws give you certain protections. You can request to see what data we've collected about you. You can ask us to delete it. You can opt out of marketing tracking entirely.
These rights aren't absolute. If we need certain data to provide our service, we can't delete it while you're still using the platform. But for anything beyond the essentials, you have a say.
Making these requests isn't instant. We've got up to 30 days to respond under current regulations. In practice, we usually handle them faster.
Changes to This Policy
We update this document when we change how we track activity. Sometimes that's because we've added new tools. Other times it's because laws have evolved.
The date at the top tells you when we last revised this policy. We won't notify you about minor wording changes, but if we make significant alterations to what we track or how we use it, we'll let you know through email or a site notification.
Continuing to use carionvelth.org after we've updated this policy means you accept the new terms. If you disagree with the changes, your option is to stop using the site.
